Over the past few years, I have moved a few times. Each time was a downsize for the size of the home. Each time I had to pack everything and make it work in the next smaller size.

Each time I had to make decisions about my things, whether to keep, give away or discard. Most times, it was a quick decision; however, while unpacking boxes on this last move, I realized some things have gone through each downsize. There were some things that I have not decided on yet. Downsizing can be overwhelming, but it can also be overcoming. With every move and every decision of what you need to keep, you overcome the part of the past that made you not want to let go of it.
Over the next few posts, let’s look at downsizing and overcoming. When deciding what to keep, I had to consider my current situation. I had to view my existing square footage. I had to consider my current lifestyle. Some of the things that I’ve kept have not been things I necessarily needed but the stuff I wasn’t ready to let go of. These are some of the most complex decisions, but keeping something should be purposeful in your current space. If it serves no purpose, why keep it? If you can answer the question of why, keep it; if you can’t, then don’t.
